Learn From 'The Rise of 2 Chainz'

2 Chainz mania is sweeping the country. Whether it’s prominent hip-hop bloggers or kids in Buckhead, 2 Chainz‘ movement is the real deal Holyfield.

Brian ‘B. Dot’ Miller, content manager of RapRadar.com, recently visited Atlanta for the BET Hip-Hop Awards. When he returned to New York, B. Dot was a 2 Chainz fan.

The Atlanta rapper, also known as Tity Boi, is sure to gain new fans when he releases T.R.U. Realigion. After all, it’s 2 Chainz time.

Like many Atlanta hip-hop fans, I have been watching 2 Chainz mania sweep the country. For me, it all started back in February when I attended 2 Chainz‘ Codeine Cowboy listening party at Room Service, here in Atlanta.

At the session, 2 Chainz unveiled several soon-to-be-bangers, all packaged inside his latest release. Some of these songs included “Boo”, “Spend It”, “Stand Still” and “Lo Boots”.

Of course, 2 Chainz’ ability to pack a mixtape full of down south bangers has been one of the ways he has become one of Atlanta’s most popular rappers, but let’s examine some of the other factors: 

1. 2 Chainz Stays True to Himself.  In today’s rap game, there’s far too many artists pretending to be something their not. 2 Chainz is being himself, and as a result, he’s created a unique voice that stands-out. According to my sources, before 2 Chainz was 2 Chainz, he had a reputation for being a silly guy in school. I don’t mean ‘silly’ as in soft, but rather as someone who had no problem embracing their inner-goofball. This silly side comes out in songs like “Spend It”, where the Atlanta rapper exclaims “Similac!”, referring to the baby food you’ll need to  buy once 2 Chainz impregnates your lady. Fans love this because (1) it’s hilarious and (2) it’s unique to 2 Chainz.

2. 2 Chainz Embraces the Viral Video. As I have told artists’ before, the key in today’s age is to release videos without worrying too much about how fancy the visual looks. You could spend a million dollars on a video, and in three weeks, no one would be talking about it. The key, in my opinion, is to constantly be on the radar of fans. Furthermore, rap fans like me just want something to look at while your song plays through their speakers. 2 Chainz has embraced the cheap video, releasing visuals for a large amount of his Codeine Cowboy songs. 3. 2 Chainz Surrounds Himself with a Great Team. In order to become a popular rapper, it is essential that you surround yourself with individuals who can take you to the next level. An artist needs to focus on being the best artist they can be, while other members of the team focus on specific tasks. Remember: success in the rap game cannot be achieved alone. I am unaware of who makes-up 2 Chainz’ inner circle, but I would like to salute his team for doing a great job.
